Rocky Mountaineer
A 15-Year Creative Partnership: Shaping the Rocky Mountaineer Experience Through Innovative Design
Rocky Mountaineer, founded in 1990, is a luxury train service offering scenic rail journeys through the breathtaking landscapes of Western Canada and the American Southwest. Known for its glass-domed coaches, exceptional service, and gourmet cuisine, it provides travelers with an immersive experience of stunning vistas, from snow-capped mountains to lush forests and desert canyons. Originally designed to showcase the iconic Canadian Rockies, it now features multiple routes, like the renowned Vancouver to Banff journey, allowing passengers to explore some of the most beautiful and remote regions in North America in a uniquely relaxing and unforgettable way.
Over 15 Years of Partnership with Rocky Mountaineer
Our journey with Rocky Mountaineer began back in 2008, when we were entrusted with creating environmental graphics for their Vancouver office. Since then, this partnership has flourished, spanning over 100 projects across all their key locations in Western Canada, including Whistler, Kamloops, Banff, and Calgary. These projects have encompassed a wide range of signage solutions, from interior office and station graphics to seasonal PVC and magnet signs, as well as large-scale exterior signage packages. As we reflect on this long-standing collaboration, we’d like to share a few memorable moments that stand out in our vault of projects, celebrating over 15 years of creativity and teamwork.
20th Anniversary Banner
This ginormous one-of-a-kind banner was created to celebrate Rocky Mountaineer’s 20th Anniversary. The idea was to create a penetrable banner that the train can pass through. It was created by stitching multiple banners together with the passable area joined together using Velcro. The entire banner was mounted to temporary scaffolding. Although the original plan was for the train to pass through at relative high speed, due to safety concerns, we had to open the flaps of the banner prior to the train going through. Regardless of the change, it was still a very memorable moment for us.
Curved Backlit Wall Murals
One of the earliest projects that marked the beginning of our partnership was the production and installation of environmental graphics for Rocky Mountaineer’s office. The highlight of this project was undoubtedly the stunning curved backlit wall murals, which featured breathtaking landscapes of British Columbia with the Rocky Mountaineer train in the foreground. Printed on backlit fabric and installed into a custom-built curved frame we designed, these murals created an impressive "WOW" factor, greeting visitors at the entrance of their former office and setting the tone for their brand experience.
Solar-Powered LED Pylon Sign
In 2015, to celebrate Rocky Mountaineer’s 25th anniversary, we fabricated and installed a custom 12-foot-tall pylon sign, powered by solar panels mounted on top. This project was particularly exciting for us, as it was our first solar-powered pylon sign. Today, it still stands tall and proud, welcoming every guest who drives through the entrance, serving as a lasting symbol of our collaboration and innovation.
Retrofit Channel Letters with LED Lighting
One of our most recent standout projects was retrofitting Rocky Mountaineer’s 30-foot building sign with modern LED lights. The original sign, a marquee-style channel letter display with neon lighting, had become outdated. The new halo-lit LED sign not only looks stunning at night but is also more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly, offering a refreshed, modern look while aligning with sustainability goals.
Our long-standing partnership with Rocky Mountaineer has been an incredible honor and a rewarding journey for us. Contributing to the visual identity of such an iconic brand has allowed us to play a small part in shaping their remarkable reputation. Over the years, we’ve seen Rocky Mountaineer grow and evolve into a prestigious symbol of luxury travel, and being part of that transformation has been invaluable. This relationship has not only pushed us to innovate and excel but has also deepened our appreciation for the trust and collaboration that define true partnership. We’re proud to have been part of their journey and look forward to continuing this successful collaboration for many years to come.
